About The University

Niger Delta University, popularly called NDU is a state university-owned and funded by the Bayelsa State Government. The university came into existence in 2000 and was built by the then Governor of the Bayelsa state, Chief Dr. Alamieyeseigha. NDU has three campuses located within the State. They include, the Main campus in Amassoma also called Gloryland Campus, a College of Health Sciences Campus in Wilberforce Island, and a Satellite Campus in the State Capital, Yenagoa which houses Faculty of Law.

The university offers programmes at Bachelor, Masters, and PhD levels with its course fully accredited and recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC).


University Location

The Niger Delta University has two main campuses, one in the state capital, Yenagoa, which contains the law faculty, and the other in Amassoma.The main campus is located in Wilberforce Island, about 32 km from the state capital Yenagoa. The Gloryland campus and the campus that houses the College of Health Sciences is part of the main campus in Wilberforce Town in Amassoma. There is also a temporary campus of the Faculty of Law in Yenagoa.

Currently, at Wilberforce, a new campus, which is an extension of the Gloryland campus, is being developed with Standard Faculty buildings, School of Postgraduate Studies, DOCERAD, Senate Building(Under Construction), et al.


How It Started

Prior to the establishment of the university in 2000, Bayelsa state was known to be educationally less-developed as it was without a university. This was also a significant turning-point in the educational and socio-economic history of the State. The institution was established and built by the Chief Dr. Alamieyeseigha led administration while he was the Governor of the state. Academic activities started at the institution in 2001 and University has since grown from an initial population of over 1,000 students to a thriving population of more than 16,000 students.

The Niger Delta University offers a wide range of programmes from the full-time certificate, diploma and degree programmes cutting across twelve (12) faculties. The faculties and their respective departments are Faculty of Arts, Agricultural Technology, Basic Medical Sciences, Engineering , Clinical Sciences, Education, Law, Management Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy,Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences.

Niger Delta University Admission Requirements

NDU Admission Requirements: How to Gain Admission

To study at Niger Delta University, you must possess the following requirements:

  • The candidate must be over 16 years of age in the year of admission (Some student swear an affidavit just to increase their ages)
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in relevant subjects which must include English Language and mathematics at GCE O’Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than 2 sittings.
  • Candidates with Teachers Grade II (TC II) with passes at credit or merit levels in conjunction with credit passes in relevant subjects at GCE, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents may be considered. No subject may be counted at both TC II and GCE O/Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents.
  • In addition, the candidate must make at least 180 pass mark in JAMB to qualify for internal screening.

Admission Requirements For Postgraduates

A prospective applicant must be a graduate of a recognized University with the following requirements:

  • Graduate certificate with verifiable grades and required grade point average.
  • Academic transcript from University attended.
  • SSCE or equivalent results
  • NYSC discharge certificate.

Also, in addition to the requirements above, you are also expected to meet departmental requirements for your programme of course.


NDU Cut Off Marks

I am sure by now, you have read the certain requirements you must meet before you can be considered for admission into the Niger Delta University to study any course of your choices such as Law, Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, and the likes. Anyway, one of these requirements includes beating the required departmental, faculty and school cut off mark for the year in view. However, it is generally advisable to study hard and score very high above the cut off point/mark so as to be on the safer side.

The minimum JAMB score that NDU requires for admission is 150 and you are expected to beat this cut off mark far above it so that your chances of getting admitted will increase. This is because any school will want to admit students on merits i.e score above to mark.


NDU School Fees

Here is the summary of the school fees at the Niger Delta University. The fees differs in faculty because of the bench levy fee.

  • Faculties Of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Pharmacy and Nursing - N150,000
  • Faculty of Law - N130,000
  • Faculty of Engineering - N120,000
  • Faculties Of Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts, Agricultural Science, Education and Sciences - N110,000

The fees above are for indigenes while the non-Bayelsans are to pay with addition of N50,000 to the above fees.


Accommodation At Niger Delta University

The university offers hostel services for its students who are willing to live on the school campus. The hostel fees is relatively cheap and affordable compared to the amount paid outside for house rent.

Niger Delta University has a good number of facilities for educational, sporting and recreational activities. This include:
